Port City Colombo celebrated the groundbreaking of the Marina Development with a special ceremony held on 10 January. The occasion was graced by chief guest, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment & Tourism Vijitha Herath.

Also present at the event were Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China Qi Zhenhong, Colombo Port City Economic Commission Chairperson Harsha Amarasekera, Brown and Company PLC Chairperson and LOLC Holdings PLC Deputy Chairperson Ishara Nanayakkara, LOLC Holdings PLC Group Managing Director/CEO Kapila Jayawardena, Browns Investments PLC Director Kamantha Amarasekera, China Harbour Engineering Company Managing Director Wang Gang, and CHEC Port City Colombo (Pvt) Ltd. Managing Director Xiong Hongfeng.

The occasion served to showcase the project’s progress and readiness for investment, whilst also marking a significant milestone for marine tourism in Sri Lanka and South Asia. The luxury Marina Development at Port City Colombo is being undertaken as a joint venture between Browns Investments PLC (BI), the strategic investment arm of the LOLC Group, and China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC).

It is noteworthy to mention that BI was one of the first Sri Lankan companies to invest in Port City Colombo and to date, is currently the largest investor. Browns Investment PLC has invested in six land plots, of which this development includes four plots in the Marina District.

As Sri Lanka targets 3 million tourists and $ 5 billion in revenue by 2025, the Marina Development at Port City Colombo is another significant step towards realising the vision of establishing Sri Lanka as the preferred destination for luxury tourism in South Asia. Beyond its tourism appeal, the project is expected to create thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities, attract foreign investment, and strengthen Sri Lanka’s position on the global map.
