Colombo, Feb 24 (Daily Mirror) – The Gold Route service at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) has reported revenue of LKR 94.9 million in 2024, reflecting a 37% year-on-year growth, driven by an increase in affluent travel.
According to Airport and Aviation Services Sri Lanka, the service has welcomed nearly 3,000 distinguished travellers and generated LKR 175 million (USD 191,446) for the nation since its launch in 2022. The initiative was designed to boost foreign exchange earnings and meet the growing demand of the luxury travel sector.
With a continued rise in luxury travel, there is a significant surge in demand for exclusive, personalised and immersive travel experiences. To meet this demand, the BIA introduced the Gold Route Service in 2022, offering a premium airport experience for high-end passengers.
Sri Lanka is targeting 3 million tourists this year, with a focus on expanding the luxury travel segment. As global luxury tourism shifts towards curated, bespoke experiences, the country is positioning itself to provide a unique blend of authenticity and upscale offerings.
